When I could just be friends with someone of the opposite gender
When I could be ignorant of what cruelty the world holds
When I could be worry-free
When there was a time I could look forward to the next Harry Potter movie
When boys had cooties
When recess was too short.
When life was too long.
When decisions were easy, to choose by “eni, meanie, mini, mo.”
When only skinned knees brought tears.
And when boys were yucky.
When goodbye only meant unil tomorrow.
When your clothes didn’t need to match.
When the only race issues where who ran faster.
When a promise was a high five.
And when fun went on forever, without a broken heart.
